The Frustration with Total Incompetency
Humanity is supposed to evolve. Evolution is the process that got us all here. That has always meant to me that each century/generation would be an improvement on the prior. The Industrial Age word “progress” implied that inventions, technologies would start to stack up through time. The telegraph led to the telephone, which led to the Internet, which led to global high-speed connectivity. The invention and installation of elevators led to verticality in cities.
When humanity evolves from apes because of larger brains, the general concept is, - through eons of time – that we continue to evolve. Our thinking. Our culture. Our compassion. Our visions. Our society. Our health.
When humanity discovered that the world was round and not flat, we evolved.
When humanity realized that the Earth revolved around the Sun and not the Sun around Earth, we evolved.
When the American life expectancy increased by 50% from 1900 to 2000, based upon three things: vaccines, anti-biotics and modern in-door plumbing and modern sanitation, we evolved.
When the U.S. spent as much on the military as the next 10 countries, we assumed that the nation’s treasure would be spent wisely. The last war the military won was 81 years ago. Our military has not evolved if the investment was to win wars.

In December 2024 I wrote this column about Incompetence

Top to Bottom Incompetency
The President of the United States decided, with his gut, to start a forever war in the Middle East. At the time of his war initiation he said that the war would last “four to six weeks”. That was six months ago. The world, and Americans are worse off than they were the day before the President started the war.
The President of the United States, after claiming he would bring manufacturing jobs back, canceled billions of dollars of already appropriated money to build many massive clean energy projects, which has resulted in a decline in manufacturing jobs.
The President of the United States is fiddling around with “drill baby drill” while the Earth is clearly burning. Fires are everywhere due largely to the climate crisis that humanity has triggered. Not just incompetence, but on the wrong side of history.
The Secretary of Defense is concerned about not promoting the generals who have battle experience and instead promoting lesser people with less experience. Hegseth is more concerned about testosterone treatment that winning the war with Iran. It can’t be said that this war is going well for Americans.
Measles was declared eliminated in America in 2000, meaning that there had been no measles for at least a decade. This was due to a very effective Measles vaccine, as there is no cure for measles., a highly infectious disease. Now, America has a Measles epidemic. This of course is due to Trump’s HHS Secretary. RFK Jr. who does not believe in vaccines. In 2025 there was a total of 2,289 total cases of measles. In the first seven months of 2026 there have been 2,318 total cases with five months in the year still to go. Some 90% of all Measles cases in this two-year epidemic were not vaccinated.
The Ebola outbreak in Africa in 2014-2015 was addressed by the CDC in the U.S., the gold status of international agencies for infectious diseases. The staff of the CDC has been cut under RFK Jr. “leadership” and filled with people who do not believe in science. Hence the serious risk that this Ebola outbreak could spread. Make Americans less safe by your incompetence RFK Jr. and DJT.
While making massive cuts in the CDC these two incompetents have had several food borne illness outbreaks as they were downsizing and getting rid of people with decades of experience. Here is just a list of the statistics of food borne illnesses since Trump’s inauguration in 2025: In 2025 and 2026, the main U.S. foodborne illness events were: a multistate Wisteria outbreak tied to prepared pasta meals in 2025 that was later reported as 28 illnesses, 27 hospitalizations, 7 deaths, and one fetal loss; a Salmonella outbreak tied to moringa leaf powder supplements that began in 2025 and continued into 2026 with 119 illnesses across 36 states and 32 hospitalizations; a Salmonella Enteritidis outbreak linked in part to shell eggs in 2026 with 98 illnesses across 17 states and 26 hospitalizations; and , currently, a large Cyclospora outbreak in 2026 with 1,947 reported illnesses across 9 states, at least 98 hospitalizations, and no deaths.
Sean Duffy is Trump’s transportation chief. In 2025 and early 2026, there were far more plane crashes in America than in 2023 and 2024. Do you feel safer flying today than say 10 years ago? Not only unsafe, but full of hassles and lines in airports.
Incompetents tend to be stupid.
I wrote this about the Big Stupid relative to the climate crisis
Then I wrote this about Stupidity:
The Big Stupid is Everywhere
The Big Stupid column I wrote recently was about how humanity is simply not facing the climate crisis with any intelligence, at least to some sense of scale. Our collective failure is and will be looked back by future historians as perhaps one of the greatest failures of our species. Until our vested interests and consumption habits change we will con…
In 2026 Americans are led by incompetents who dismiss science, intelligence and history. It is so frustrating when, in the broad view of humanity’s ascent to being ever more intelligent and understanding of the universe in which we live that we have to accept this level of incompetence and stupidity.

All too true and all too serious to ignore. Yet, Americans continue to be complacent as an epidemic of incompetency and stupidity spreads across the political spectrum and administration in Washington. At the core continues to be corporations that put capitalism ahead of humanity.
