STRAAT Museum in Amsterdam

Well, since I am in the Netherlands visiting my son and taking in a lot of art museums, I thought I would feature a really cool and new museum.

My son lives in the NDSM area of Amsterdam which is a rapidly developing area transitioning from industrial to residential. The last time I visited some 20 months ago there was a lot of graffiti and really good street art all over the place. Well, now there is a museum for all the street art called Straat [dutch for Street]. It is a large cavernous space filled with a lot of big paintings by street artists.

If you travel to Amsterdam and stay in the city center, it is very easy to get to the Straat Museum. Take the free ferry for NDSM from behind the central train station, and then walk for about 100 meters to the entrance to the museum. The museum is unmistakeable as there is a large painting of Anne Frank over the entrance.

Directions to the museum off the ferry:

When I launched Evolutionshift more than six months ago, my aim for these Weekend Recommendations was to provide the growing community of paid subscribers with interesting and fun stuff they might not get anywhere else. Something that may or may not be about the future but of interest nevertheless.

That continues here. So if you are a paid subscriber, read on and learn why the Straat Museum is a must-visit when in Amsterdam. For all free subscribers, if you have been enjoying my columns, perhaps consider becoming a paid subscriber. It is the way you can support my work here. I would greatly appreciate it!
