Weekend Recommendation #13
Three Top Science Fiction Movies
Scratch a futurist, and you will find a science fiction fan. Obvious. It goes with the territory. I don’t think that I know a futurist who doesn’t appreciate reading science fiction and of course, Sci-Fi movies.
I have realized that a number of science fiction movies are touchstones for me. They actually prompted some deep thinking about various concepts and visions about the future and are reference points for me in many conversations I have with futurists. So, from time to time, I will pick just a few movies whose visions are provocative.
I do not include superhero movies in this genre; they have their own. I am not including any fantasy, such as Lord of the Rings, as it is its own genre.
Finally, I am not including the Star Trek and Star Wars movies as they are huge fantastical franchises that bring us great escapes. Part of the reason to not look at these as Sci-Fi movies is that I have become tired of the question, most often asked by GenXers due to their age: “So are you a Star Trek or a Star Wars fan?” Though that does delineate a generational divide. Boomers like both, GenXers lean Star Wars and Millennials and GenZ are Star Wars fans.
In Evolutionshift here, my focus today and in the future will be films that provide fundamental concepts to consider. Visions of the future that are profound and significant.
I am not interested in a Top Ten list as it is just a list. So, here are three science fiction films that are profound and why I recommend them.
