Please Remember that it is the 2020’s - and the Year of the Fire Horse
Since 2017 I have realized that the 2020s would be one of, if not the most disruptive decade in history. It has been and continues to be a lens that I think all of us must keep in mind, every day. It has been a major part of how I see the future. I have spoken of the disruptive decade to thousands of people around the world. I have also written three books about the decade. I have made them available for free over the last three years for all Founding Members and paid subscribers of Evolutionshift. [Please remember that in America we have all become politically divided. Please do not read this column through that filter of us versus them. What I am talking about here is the macro dynamics for humanity].
Humanity has entered the global stage of evolution. This means that a massive reorganization of thinking about how we move from local/state/nation state to global identity and what that means in terms of reorganization of society and even civilization. I certainly will write more about this profound reality, but in the past I have written this about it here and here What this means is that we are slowly developing a new global consciousness that will allow us to move up to the next level of human evolution.
This all begins in this decade of the 2020s. It is one of the reasons that there is so much disruption.
In my 2007 book “The Shift Age”. I wrote:
“In the Shift Age the speed of change is becoming part of our environment….Change is the context in which we live. We feel it. We see it. We are constantly confronted with change. We cannot keep up. We must always adapt. Three-year business plans are laughable. Even three-month business plans in certain industries are challenged….We sometimes feel disoriented because of this ever-present, accelerating speed of change, things no longer seem to be fixed but rather in an on-going state of flux. An appropriate metaphor for the Shift Age is an earthquake. If you have ever experienced an earthquake, you know the sense of powerlessness”
In my book “The 2020s: a Decade of Cognitive Dissonance” [ the book that was given free to all paid subscribers in 2024] I wrote:
We are at that point, the nexus of change, the historical moment which will set civilization on its path for the remainder of the 21st Century. The 2020s will define the direction for humanity, including our survival as a species”
And
“TI will replace between 10 and 40% of white-collar jobs depending on the country and the nature of work.
What to do?
Either become comfortable living in full blown cognitive dissonance, or choose to drop out of society, business and active participation in the world.
This will be disorienting for most of us, Some people see change as an opportunity, but many more are uncomfortable with change. Certainty is values as an anchor in life and business. The more one tries to hold on to this viewpoint, the more cognitive dissonance one will feel. Instead, as suggested at the beginning of this chapter, think of change as the only certainty”
For those of you for whom there is an awareness of the Chinese New Year and astrology we are now in the Year of the Fire Horse, which runs from 2/17/26 to 2/5/27. Fire Horse years occur only once every 60 years; the last one was 1966. The combined symbolization of Fire and Horse is believed to be a year that is fast-paced, bold, action-oriented, and change-heavy, encouraging big moves, risk-taking and visible progress, but also bringing impatience and impulsiveness.
Perplexity adds:
Astrologers frame the 2026 Fire Horse year as globally fast-moving, opportunity-rich and more volatile than average, with extra momentum in “fiery” domains like technology, energy, politics and social movements…..
More visible conflict and polarization: fire symbolism plus the Horse’s restlessness are often read as heightened ideological clashes, more confrontational diplomacy, and faster swings in public opinion. …. Fire Horse analyses often pair fast innovation with sharper swings in financial markets, particularly in energy, metals and speculative tech”
I don’t usually write about the Chinese New Year or the astrology around it, but the alignment to the 2020s and what is going on in the world makes this year’s forecast incredibly interesting. Also, close to 25% of the global population follow it. [Certainly, a billion-plus people in China at the minimum.]
Again, please don’t read this column through the filter of us versus them politically, as these dynamics are much larger than that.
